Epic Games Store Refund Policy Updated

Remember the Epic Games Store? It stepped in the market in early December 2018 and put Steam in a challenge with their 88-22(developer-epic games) revenue split. Well, their store started with a weird refund policy of two refunds in one year for unlimited hours of gameplay. For the refund, you needed to submit details like your IP address in a support ticket. Well, now they have changed their refund policy to become a better competitor of Steam. But at first, let’s have a look at who Epic Games really are.

Epic Games is the developer behind the popular battle-royale game Fortnite. And they also developed the game engine named Unreal Engine. On December 4th, 2018, Epic games announced their new game store. With that, they introduced their new policy of giving 88% of the revenue to the developer of the game, which broke the stereotype of 30-70 revenue split and created havoc on the internet. Their store features Hello Neighbor: Hide and Seek, Ashen, Heads(early access) and many more.

The new refund policy

Now after the refund policy update, Epic Games Store will let you have unlimited refunds within 14 days of purchase and with less than two hours of gameplay. Users still need to submit a support request for now, as a self-service option is still not available. The advantage of such a refund policy is that you won’t need to submit a ton of sensitive data to epic games.

The refund window is similar to Steam’s refund window. According to Sergey Galyonkin for some games, it is not possible to judge the quality within the two-hour time-frame. The previous policy was fine for most people as generally, people don’t need to refund more than two games a year. But the older policy kept people on the edge if they needed a third refund in that year.
