Xiaomi has confirmed to launch the much-anticipated Mi TV Stick to India via a Twitter post. Here’s what you should know about it.
After bringing in Mi Box 4K at a competitive price of ₹3,499, Xiaomi is now bringing its more compact device. Due to its size and features, it is going to compete against the like of Amazon’s Fire TV Stick. We even expect its pricing to be lower than even the Mi Box 4K.
Mi TV Stick Features and Specifications
The Mi TV stick is going to be a trimmed-down Mi Box 4K released in India a couple of months back. Mi TV Stick is going to be a 1080p or Full-HD device, unlike the 4K resolution that Mi Box offers. It is expected to be powered by a 2.0GHz quad-core processor with Cortex A53 cores, paired with a Mali-450 GPU and 1GB RAM. The storage front should be handled with support for 8GB eMMC based storage. On the software side, it would run Android TV 9 out of the box. We can also expect Xiaomi’s software skin, Patchwall to be running on top of Android TV.
While these specs seem weak in front of what most smartphones offer, they are pretty much enough to run a decent Android TV software that delivers a good experience to users. We also expect the Mi TV Stick to launch with basic connectivity support like WiFi, Bluetooth, HDMI, Micro USB. Alongside this, it will also support Android TV 9, along with Google Chromecast and support for apps like Netflix, Prime Video, etc.
Launch Date, Pricing and Competition
Going with Xiaomi’s twitter teaser, the Mi TV Stick will be launching in India at 12 noon on 5th August 2020. We expect it to be priced between ₹2,499 to ₹2,999, being a trimmed down 1080p device. It will be facing competition from offerings from Amazon, Airtel XStream, etc. Hence, pricing will be a key factor to determine its success in the Indian market.
