Google has rolled out a slew of new features for its video conferencing app Meet. Exclusively launched for teachers and students, the new features include the ability to allow the teacher to mute all students, end meetings for everyone, moderation tools, and more.
Further, the tech giant has launched a couple of other features for safe and secure learning sessions. These include the improved security controls that give teachers the ability to decide who can join the classes. Also, there come advanced safety locks to block unknown users from gatecrashing the meeting. These also give teachers the control to decide who can chat and present within a meeting on Google Meet.
End Meeting for Everyone, Moderation Controls, and More
Currently, the meeting can continue to go on even after the teacher exits the meeting. But now, teachers will get a feature to end meetings for everyone after the class is over. With this new feature, teachers will be able to control how and when they want to end the class for everyone.
“Getting everyone’s attention when class is deep in a discussion can be tough, so we’re also giving teachers an easy way to mute all participants at once. Rolling out over the next few weeks, “mute all” will help educators keep class on track. And since sometimes it’s important to teach without interruption, launching in the coming months, meeting hosts will be able to control when students can unmute themselves,” said Google in a blog post.
One of the most important features coming for teachers is the ability to mute all participants. The “Mute all” feature will help teachers block out all the noise while they’re teaching. Further, a teacher will have an option with which he/she can decide if a student can unmute himself/herself during the class.
Apart from this, Google is also planning to roll out key moderation controls for teachers who use mobile phones or tablets to teach. These moderation controls will let them decide who can join a meeting, use chat, or share their screen. It is worth seeing that teachers would be able to control this directly from their Android or iOS devices. Additionally, the search giant also has plans to integrate Google Classroom with Google Meet later this year.
